The Open Masterclass Series grew out of Fausto Homero Lemos’s conviction that access to outstanding music education should not depend on a student’s financial circumstances or where they come from. Created through a partnership between the Red Argentina de Jóvenes Directores and Fundación Beethoven, the series opens the doors of conducting education to a wider community.
Its free public masterclasses bring some of Argentina’s most distinguished conductors and instrumentalists together with aspiring musicians and curious listeners. Held in the celebrated main auditorium of Fundación Beethoven in Recoleta, Buenos Aires, these gatherings give large audiences the opportunity to learn directly from musicians whose knowledge and experience might otherwise remain beyond their reach.
The series works to break down the barriers that keep people from accessing high-quality musical education. Hundreds of students of all ages, from different socioeconomic backgrounds and provinces across Argentina, have been able to learn from the country’s leading conductors without having to pay for that opportunity.
That commitment extends to everyone who wants to listen and learn. Alongside aspiring conductors, our audiences include classical music lovers with no formal training, students from other disciplines, and families whose children dream of one day standing in front of an orchestra. Each masterclass is a chance to discover, ask questions, and feel part of a musical community.
This work is possible thanks to the vision and tireless support of Pupi Sebastiani, President of Fundación Beethoven.
Making education accessible means giving people access to the very best. Every guest conductor, pianist, and singer brings artistic excellence to the series, ensuring that free admission goes hand in hand with teaching and music-making of the highest caliber. At its heart is a belief in the value of learning directly from the musicians who have shaped our profession, and in passing that knowledge on to future generations.
Guest conductors have included Mario Benzecry, Guillermo Scarabino, Mario Perusso, Carlos Vieu, Beatrice Venezi (Italy), Diego Sánchez Haase (Paraguay), Mariano Chiacchiarini, and Emmanuel Siffert.
The series has also welcomed distinguished pianists Eduviges Picone, Iván Rutkauskas, Sebastián Achenbach, Claudio Santoro, Mariano Manzanelli, Tamara Benítez, and Florencia Rodríguez Botti.
Our opera conducting masterclasses have brought students together with internationally acclaimed opera singers, including Paula Almerares, Gastón Oliveira Weckesser, Leonardo Estévez, and Leonardo Linares, among many others.
Through their generosity and commitment, these artists help make exceptional musical education available to a wider community.
